Nature

The inspiring views, the long beaches, the forest trails and woodland heaths fascinated the summer colonists of Roosevelt’s time, and have charmed visitors ever since. The Roosevelt Campobello International Park, covering the southern third of the island, maintains trails for walking, biking, and driving, and provides nature interpreters. At Eagle Hill bog, boardwalk signs describe pitcher plants, Labrador tea, and other vegetation. Campobello Island's famous lupines bloom in late May and June.
The adjoining Herring Cove Provincial Park, with its spectacular and challenging nine-hole golf course, provides more miles of walking trails. Paths from the Lupine Lodge lead through old-growth forest to Herring Cove, one of the finest beaches on the eastern seaboard. Behind the long crescent beach, a freshwater lake lets you swim in seclusion.
Campobello provides some of the best whale-watching to be found anywhere. The “fog forest” at Liberty Point, the rugged headlands around the island, and the seagulls, bald eagles, porpoises, shellfish, seaweeds, and other bird and marine life make Campobello a “home harbour” for the nature-lover. We're also on the Atlantic Flyway for many species of migratory birds. And don’t forget the huge tides of the Bay of Fundy, which at nearby Deer Island generate the second-largest whirlpool in the world.
